Poverty in Peru takes a heavy toll on the children. Kids Alive International estimates that 570,000 children roam the streets of Peru with no place to go because their families are unable to provide for them. Many children are unable to go to school because their families are unable to pay the fees or they have to drop out of school to work to help support their families. Some parents are forced to abandon their children to orphanages because they are unable to provide the basic necessities of life.
The Christian ministry, Alcanzando La Mano (ALMA), was founded by an Australian woman to meet the needs of the desperate families in Curahuasi, Peru. ALMA provides education assistance and tutoring, helps parents find jobs or create small family run businesses, and is seeking to build homes for children who are orphaned or abandoned.
We are a group of 10 people from Holy Trinity Lutheran
Church and the Upper Room Ministries in Statesville NC who are traveling to
Curahuasi Peru to serve our Lord Jesus Christ through serving children who
don’t have families to care for them. We will serve ALMA
by building two homes for children. The ALMA Children’s Home will provide
disadvantaged children with a safe and loving home environment in their own
community, nurturing the children physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Any funds raised beyond our own need will be provided to ALMA to help them better serve their community.
Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly with our God. Micah 6:8
